ABOUT ME

Prof. Javier Montiel completed his studies at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and earned his Master’s degree from Full Sail University. He has worked on numerous international STEAM education projects with public and private schools. He has been responsible for linking students and faculty at Tecnológico de Monterrey with NASA, and has collaborated with staff and students at Shimane University in Japan and Carol Davila University in Romania.

Since 2011, he has been a speaker at Space Center Houston and has taught official NASA courses and trainings for teachers and students at the Johnson Space Center facilities. He has also been a guest speaker at events such as NSTA, SXSWedu, the 3M Latin America State of Science Index research summit, the Mexican Space Agency, and the Mexican Congress.

He was selected as a Faculty Scientific Advisor to the “Bringing the Universe to America’s Classrooms” initiative in collaboration with NASA and GBH. Prof. Montiel is the founder of the non-profit organization International Aerospace Academy. He collaborates with the ISS Mimic initiative as an International Space Education Specialist and with Magnitude, where he published a bilingual space research book for children about the ExoLab-11 mission in 2024.

He has been honored with the "Top 100 Visionaries in Education" award by the Global Forum for Education and Learning (GFEL), the 2024 Tony So Excellence in Education Award given by the ISS National Lab during the International Space Station Research and Development Conference, and the Hispanic Hero Award by the Brazoria County Chamber of Commerce.

Giving a NASA introductory course in underwater robotics based in the Engineering Design Process for Houston ISD staff and students. This course gave staff 6 hours of professional development hours for the participants.
